AM06 Pro USB Internals

Post by DaveN »

Just received my AM06 Pro and am very happy with it so far. I do have one issue with the Back Top USB 2.0 port, which I think is a firmware / bios problem.

Using usbview and device manager I have mapped the USB ports:
Root Hub 1 - port 1 / 5 - Front Type-C
Root Hub 1 - port 2 / 6 - Front Right USB 3.0
Root Hub 1 - port 3 - Back Bottom USB 2.0
Root Hub 1 - port 4 - Back Top USB 2.0
Root Hub 2 - port 1 / 5
Root Hub 2 - port 2 / 6 - Front Left USB 3.0
Root Hub 2 - port 3 - C-Media Electronics Inc. USB Audio Device (Internal)
Root Hub 2 - port 4 - Realtek Bluetooth Adapter (Internal)

usbview shows that port 4 of both hubs is not user connectable:
[Port4] Is Port User Connectable: no
All the other ports of both hubs are defined as user connectible yes.

The problem I have is that when a USB flash drive is plugged into the Back Top USB 2.0 (hub 1 port 4), is does not show up in the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" system tray (nor the Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices list). If the same USB flash drive is plugged into any of the other 3 type A ports, it does show in the system tray and devices list.

Is there any chance of getting a fix? I believe that this property is encoded in the ACPI BIOS.

DaveN, my first question about this situation is, does the USB drive show up in Windows? You said it doesn't show under the Safely Remove Hardware area. Is it a USB2 or USB3 drive?

I tried both USB2 and USB3 flashdrives in all 4 type A ports. (I also tested the Type C port, but only could use my phone with a USB2 cable as I don't have any other C devices).
Both the USB2 and USB3 flashdrives worked as expected in 3 of the 4 ports. They showed up as drives and could be disconnected using the icon in the system tray.
With the Back Top USB 2.0 port, both flashdrives appeared as drives in Windows file explorer, and were useable. The only issue with this port is that they're not seen as ejectable in the system tray, and aren't listed in the devices list. I did find Eject in the drive right-click menu, and it works.
As mentioned in my original post, I used usbview (from Windows SDK debugging tools), and can see that the "user connectable" property of only that port is set to false, thus windows thinks it is an internal, not accessible, and doesn't show anything connected to it in the systen tray eject menu.
