Backup your drivers

Post by admin »

If a clean install of Windows is necessary and one or more unknown devices appear in your Windows Device Manager, you'll appreciate the opportunity to install the correct drivers by pointing to the local backup folder that contains everything.
Having such an unknown device after a fresh install of Windows? Find the backup folder, check the bold box to include subfolders, and Windows will automatically select the correct driver for the unknown device.

In this article, I will show you how to backup your drivers with Driver Magician Lite.
Download and install the Lite version of Driver Magician.
Start Driver Magician Lite to see a list of all installed drivers.
Black drivers are included with Windows and are installed automatically when a device is detected. There is no need to back them up (but you can if you want to).
You should select all drivers in red, they are not included with Windows.
Click <Start Backup>.
Driver Magician will ask you where the backup folder should be created.
It will create a folder with all downloaded drivers in the location you dropped - each device in it's own subfolder. Save the backup in a safe place (not on the same drive as Windows) for later use.
