SSD drive failure, BIOS continually cycles, Cant Restore

Hi This relates to a ACEPC GK3V which I received on the 10th June 2021 from Amazon UK

I had used it for 2 weeks until the day before yesterday when I got a blue screen error on windows which indicated some fault on the drive. At the time i did just think it was a standard blue screen and would come back so didnt take photographs of same and cant remember the exact message.

However on restart I got a constant cycle of BIOS, which i couldnt escape out of, the bios didnt show windows boot manager or the SSD drive in any way (see screenshots)

After trying various things I went to the forum, saw the instruction regarding being stuck on bios and downloaded the 8 gig GK software to a WINPE NTFS drive to reinstall system/drivers.

I tried to run this but the installation failed with a message stating "a device which does not exist was specified" (see screenshot). It had got past the stage of DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk

I had taken a system backup with macrium reflect so tried to recover this. Macrium saw the "raw disk" to restore to but when trying to restore gave an error message stating "Error initializing GPT disk" (see screenshot)

I used the dos command functionof Macrium to look at DiskPart. DiskPart shows the disk but does says no partitions exist and fails when attempting to create a partition stating that the device doesnt exist (see screenshots)

I installed the macrium reflect backup on a 2.5 inch drive from another older laptop and installed in the space for the 2.5 inch drive. That worked successfully (though is only a temporary solution as will have to reconfigure other laptop in a week or so) and I can use the machien (albeit slowly) through that other drive.

In windows in file manager the hard drive shows as uninitialised, when i try to initialise the disk it says it has failed due to a Device IO error. I attach screen shot

When I look at System Info the Hoodisk SSD does show under disk on system info, though not under drives (see screenshot)

Whilst I know I can return this to Amazon UK I really like the machine, want to keep it if I possibly can and want to resolve this. Can you please help

I have the same problem here!
after reinstalling GK1 system to reboot my acepc GK3, I have the same problem with Diskpart encountering an error as in your screenshot. it says:

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

Diskpart succeeded in cleaning the disk.

Diskpart has encountered an error: the request could not be perfomed because of an I/O device error.

*****************************************************************************************
*****************************************************************************************
call diskpart /s x:\ListVol.txt

"Found device with images folder and install.txt file"
Install.wim FOUND at C:\images\images\install.wim

Making directories...
The system cannot find the drive specified.
"Failed to make w:\recycler\scratch directory"

An error has been detected.

The system cannot find the drive specified.

Script Start Time is 14:48:14.46
Script Stop Time is 14:53:35.40
Press any key to restart the PC and remove your USB device
_

Please somebody help on this! what is the problem? is this the Disk from the ACEPC which is not recognized? Do I have to contact customer service to replace it?

Thanks.

Hi

Yes in my case this was the Hoodisk SSD that was shipped with the PC. I had a macrium reflect backup of my setup, which wouldnt work with the ACEPC Supplied disk either (it saw it but couldnt restore to it). Not sure if the disk is faulty or there is a bad connection to it.

In my case temporarily I inserted a 2.5inch hard drive in the supplied enclosure and used Macrium Reflect to restore to this drive. The PC has been working since (albeit very slowly as its a HDD rather than SSD) while I wait to find out whats next so in my case the PC itself is fine its just the SSD.

Admins please help!

Hello, baskingoutinthesun. Your coping strategy is very good. Through your detailed description, I found that this was caused by the original hard disk damage. Please contact our after-sales mailbox, after providing the order number, you will get a brand new mSATA hard drive or M.2 hard drive. It depends on your model.

Hi

I realised I never posted an update on this forum. I just want to say. The drive was replaced, a very good, very simple video was sent showing me how to do it (which only took a few minutes). Both here and on the support email, I appreciate all your help to resolve. This PC has become one of my favourites and I am very pleased with all the help and support I got to fix this.
