Over the last few days I've been thinking about doing the same. Amazon has a decent 256GB drive for under $50. That's not bad considering the odd size. I'm not familiar with the brand (KingSpec), but it has decent reviews.
I was using a 2.5" SATA SSD (250GB), but I ended up having to use that for something else.
With internal default CPU fan I had too big themperature on internal M2 SSD (and external SATA SSD also). It is because device case too small to get good air flow. But external fan resolved themperature trouble on CPU/M2/SATA.
PS: Also I created custom radiator for M2 - but it was only partial solution to decrease M2 SSD themperature to appropriate value.
