N95 systems showing up on Amazon

Post by dragonpoo »

I'm starting to see N95 systems on Amazon.

www.amazon.com/3-40Ghz-Desktop-Computer ... 0BS9VXH1N/
AceMagician branded, 8GB RAM, 256GB Storage. 2x NICs, which is following the trend of a few others, so it might make a good network appliance. I like that it has a DisplayPort and HDMI port, and a USB-C port. It also has a 2.5" port for a laptop drive/SSD, so nice expandable storage! Today's price, $200 after a coupon code.

Similar system, AceMagician, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage. Makes me wonder if the RAM can be upgraded in either one. $260 after coupon code.

www.amazon.com/KAMRUI-GK3-Ethernet-Busi ... 0BS369VMF/
www.amazon.com/KAMRUI-Windows-Computer- ... 0BS9CPNS2/
Kamrui branded, 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage. Similar design to the other GK3 models, so it has a bigger footprint, but also offers 2x HDMI and 1xVGA, 4x USB but no USB-C. Upgradable with a 2.5" drive. I don't get why there are two listings, since they both have the same specs. Both are $260 after coupon.

For comparison, Simodewa offers an N95 model too: www.amazon.com/SIMODEWA-Alderlake-N-Com ... 0BRB2SHCF/ - this is similar in size but does not offer expandable 2.5" storage. 8GB/256GB for $190 after coupon.

I'll admit, I'm tempted to pick up one of these. I'm not sure which qualifies as a AD03, probably the AceMagician as the Kamrui calls itself a GK3 Plus.

The AceMagician models look cuter, with dual NICs. I can imagine running VMware's ESXi software on it, with a few small virtual machines, allowing for a dedicated management port, assuming it recognises the NIC model. I've done that with other mini PCs and have been impressed by their performance.

While the N95 looks to be a capable processor, the one thing that worries me a little is that it supports only a single channel of RAM. Still, with the higher frequency, larger cache and its support for faster RAM, especially with DDR5, I imagine it more than makes up for it.

On the AceMagician one, does anyone know what type of chip runs the NIC and what type of wifi chipset is used? I am looking at a small box to run either OpenWrt or Opnsense on it.

I haven't touched these systems yet, but most of these Mini PCs I have played with run the Realtek chipset for networking. Although Windows and Linux don't have an issue, I've found other OS's like FreeBSD (used in pfsense, TrueNAS, etc) require a little fine tuning, and might not recognise the Wifi at all. That's not a limitation on the hardware, but a limitation for the OS.

Hopefully we'll have some posts about specific hardware. If I get one, I'll do that.
