ACEPC T11 / Trying to factory reset from Ubuntu

Post by jn44 »

Hello,

as requested,

Model: T11
Bought: June 2020
Use background: plex server under Ubuntu
Problem: tryging to factory reset it to Windows

I followed the video tutorial from viewtopic.php?f=34&t=69&start=10
I used T8U_1809_Home_X64_6255_en_de_es_fr_it_ru_zh_20190906.zip image, copied it onto an USB drive, put it into my T11, hit F7...

I'm getting only these entries:
  • UEFI: Built-in EFI Shell
    ubuntu
    Android-IA
    ubuntu
UEFI: General Udisk 5.00, Partition 1
UEFI: General Udisk 5.00, Partition 2
    Enter setup
I'm not getting NORELSYS1081 to boot to as in the video

Please can you help me?

Regards

jn44,

Though I'm sure an admin will answer you more thoroughly, you wouldn't see NORELSYS1081 unless that was the make/model of your USB flash drive.

With that said, I don't see any USB flash drive in your options, so maybe there's an issue. Hopefully the admin will be able to help you straighten the problem out.

By the way, Window 10 1809 is no longer supported by Microsoft (as of Nov 10th). I don't think ACEPC yet has a version 2004 for these models, so I'd at least install version 1909 to remain current. That's just advice.

Judging by your link you need the Home version of Windows. You can get it here...

Edit: Just in case, the Pro version is here...

Hi, jn44. Please follow the steps in the tutorial.
The factory default of the machine is the PRO version system unless you choose the HOME system when purchasing. Please confirm the tutorial steps and your own system version again.

Hello,
I managed to solve my problem and install Windows again

BTW I can't find any Windows Activation Key

In the tutorial, you forgot to mention, the partition scheme for the USB flash drive.

So here what I did to be able to factory reset my T11 and install Windows again:

1. I used Rufus to partition my USB drive by choosing MBR using FreeDos just to avoid any ISO providing
2. I then followed the tutorial by formatting the USB into NTFS
3. I copied the content of the archive to the drive
4. I started the T11 while maintaning the F7 key
5. I choosed "UEFI partition"
6. I got "finished, hit exit"
7. I had to reboot with the F7 key
8. I repeated step 5 and then I got the installation process with file copy. Took some times
9. I rebooted without the USB and got Windows installing

jn44,

There is no partition scheme for the flash drive with this method other than using the full drive size partition that's normally already on the drive. It's just formatting that existing partition to NFTS and copying the files to it, then restarting the unit into the Boot Menu and selecting the UEFI version of the drive.

With regard to the Windows Product Key, it's embedded in the BIOS. Windows activation should be automatic once the unit is connected to the internet and it communicates with Microsoft's activation servers.

Is Windows not activating?

If not, try running the Activation Troubleshooter, which I believe is on the Activation Screen at Settings >> Update and Security >> Activation. It's the "button" to click if there is an issue with the Activation. If it still doesn't activate after running the tool, try restarting the unit and seeing if it activates when it comes back up and again connects to the net. If it doesn't, you should contact ACEPC after sales support at service@iacepc.com.

After booting, press the del key, enter the bios, switch to the boot option, set Windows boot manager #1 as the windows boot manager, and press the F4 key to save and exit. You can always start with the windows system.

That's just the way I managed to view my USB drive and install back Windows on this machine.

Regarding the activation,

The T11 is connected over the Internet.

In the Windows Update screen, I'm getting: managed by your organization
In the Activation: "Can't find certificate" and "This ID can only be used for restore Windows" ...

I've installed Windows in French so I won't send you a screenshot :-)

I'm trying to reinstall in English so I'll give you more informations

Thanks for answering

Ubuntu .... OK, what about running Windows 7 on a T11?

Anyone working that? (Windows 7) I really need to get rid of Windows 10.
