How do I install microsoft studio effects on F2A? The MSFT spec and Intel spec say they should run, however, I cannot get them to install. Here are system specs:

Please advise.

Hey Davidfi01, I haven't used Microsoft Studio Effects before, so I had to look it up. It appears to be similar to filters that you find in Zoom, Snapchat, and other applications, however, it is based on AI hardware. According to the Microsoft site: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windo ... o-effects/ it appears this requires a specific NPU. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 6a975f9db4 explains more about this.

I expect Microsoft-specific device, like their high end Surface Copilot+ devices, can handle it. It also appears some other brand Copilot+ systems, like the Dell XPS with second-gen Ultra 7 processors, might offer an NPU.

Am I incorrect in this? Where did you see that it should be supported, and what happens when you try to install it?

MSFT studio effects should be supported on F2A.

Microsoft Studio Effects is supported on the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor. This processor includes the Intel AI Boost Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is compatible with the AI features required for Windows Studio Effects, such as background blur, eye contact, and auto framing. It also supports AI frameworks like OpenVINO™, WindowsML, and DirectML, which are utilized by Studio Effects.

For some reason it is not installing through windows update.

I'm learning about this as we go. I found this answer on Microsoft's site: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 348d70c019

Honestly, so many responses by Microsoft Agents are useless generic troubleshooting steps, that I'm surprised to see a helpful answer. A number of Intel and AMD processors support it, going back to some 11th gen Intel and 5th gen Ryzen. It looks like there's some troubleshooting steps listed there.

It looks like GNA needs to be enabled in the BIOS. Do you see that option?

That reference is for older cpu's.

However, this MSFT reference indicates that Studio Effects should work on 155h Ultra cpu equiped devices:

Any other ideas?

That page you linked says that Studio Effects requires an NPU. From what I remember, Microsoft pushed the NPU as a specific AI processor that their own systems came with, such as the Copilot+ PC. I'm not sure if many third-party computer manufacturers actually add an NPU to their systems.

I feel like I've seen mixed messages from Microsoft's sites about Studio Effects. You should be able to use it without any special configuration, assuming it is available. However, if it doesn't show in the settings, that means Windows can't use it.
