Fix for AM06 PRO random reboots

Post by Botorototo »

Since day 1 my AM06 PRO randomly reboots without any logical reason, sometimes when going idle, sometimes when opening something, nothing consistent nor repetitive that makes sense as to troubleshoot it.

Random reboots might happen several times a day or go silent for a week without any reboots; once again nothing that makes sense to spot the origin of the problem.

If anyone had the same issue and found a solution, it will be greatly appreciated to share it with the community and all other users experiencing this common issue.

Attempted endless solutions independently and/or combined (non worked):
  • Reduce RAM clock
  • All sort of P states from BIOS
  • NX disabled or enabled
  • Setting higher or lower power modes in BIOS
  • Replacing RAM modules
  • Fans set to much higher RPM and kicking in at lower max. temps
  • Disabling power sleep of USB ports
  • Replacing NVME disk
  • Trying several different power supplies
  • Connecting different display outputs
  • Full format and reset of the PC
  • Physically removing Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module
  • Of course, drivers are kept 100% updated with all latest compatible versions and even with 0 USB pheripherals connected
  • Tried a BIOS update shared in this forum, but the BIOS update does not work and results in an error
  • And much more

I am having the exact same problem. Im past my return date (from Amazon) and don't know if I should just chuck it in the trash...

Have not tried everything that you did, but I did try the following:
  • Changing power adapter
  • Replacing Ram
  • Replacing Nvme
  • Fresh Windows install
  • Installing Linux instead
  • Changing the fan speed for higher speeds at lower temperatures
The computer shuts off completely randomly. I keep it always on as it is meant to serve as a mini home server, and it is set up to turn on again after power failure, but the windows logs dont give any information.

Sometimes it works for 3 or 4 days. Sometimes it turns off several times a day. It shuts down under load or while completely idle too.

I would appreciate any potential solutions too.

I wouldn't mess with the setting in the BIOS, as that can actually cause more problems. I'd leave it on the default settings (other than boot changes if it's dual boot or the like).

I'd keep an eye on the temps with something like CoreTemp. I changed the Maximum processor state in the Power options in my AM06 Pro from 100% to 99%, as I don't really do anything that necessitates the need for the higher CPU speeds. Doing this disables the Boost speed, so it only runs at the basic clock speeds, but the lower temps are worth it to me. If you do this, I'd also check to make sure that the Minimum processor state is at 5%. If it's higher than that, lower it to 5%. I checked mine and it was at 80% by default, though I don't know why.

You are not alone. I gave up on this PC, after trying many things for over a month. Now, I rarely use this PC and check this forum once in a while to see if there is anything new.
It just doesn't work. Random shutdown. no useful information in event viewer. Not even BSD of minidatadump. Just plain simple shut down.
