nipogi ak1 plus n100 keeps crashing (Linux with Proxmox)

Post by Wikibear »

I use Linux with Proxmox. I'm affected also from this kind of crash. Kernel panic will be on screen if this happens. At the moment i try to find out why this happens. But not sure. At Proxmox Forum there some guys with other intel system have the same issue. I mean this is a kernel driver thing but I'm not sure. But at start i get many APCI bios errors:

Code: Select all

Sep 02 09:54:25 proxmox kernel: ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PC00.XHCI.RHUB.HS02._PLD due to previous error (AE_NOT_FOUND) (20230628/psparse-529)

There is no new bios I understand. How can we fix this?

Thanks.

Wikibear, you probably should start a new topic thread with this. Although it might seem similar, I suspect enough going on that should merit a new post. (or maybe, one of the admins can split it).
Doing a Google search, there's plenty of Linux users who see similar problems on all kinds of computer brands and linux distros. Most people opt to suppress those errors since they are benign.

Done. I added a little bit to the title to differentiate it from the other.

I played a bit with ACPI several years ago when I adapted some laptops for best compliance with MacOs/Hackintosh thanks to Clover and then OpenCore.

I don't have an immediate solution to your problem but I can tell you that SB.PC00.XHCI.RHUB.HS02 is related to USB port (XHC) and more precisely USB2 (HSxx, here HS02). There is probably a bad definition of USB (USB2) port in ACPI. Probably because the hardware vendor has quiclky adapted (or not adapted at all) a generic BIOS without fine tuning it for the specific components of the motherboard.
_SB.UBTC.RUCC is also related to USB port/Hub bad definition in ACPI.

1. check in the BIOS/UEFI if you can change some settings related to USB, like USB3 auto/manual, USB power, disable some USB port, etc..
2. ask the vendor for a better BIOS/UEFI implementation. But I doubt you get any answer, usually the business model of these mini pc is one-off sale: "Sell and Forget". With these little machines, this is: "you get what you pay for". On the contrary, serious vendors like Hardkernel/Odroid did released BIOS fixes/updates related to this kind of problem on their N100 machines.
3. There are some Grub options at boot of kernel that can hide the ACPI messages, but it will just hide them.
4. Try with live USB Linux OS with different and older kernel version if the ACPI problems occur.. If with one specific kernel version you don't get these troubles, then do note that kernel version, and downgrade your Proxmox kernel to that version.
5. if problems still exists whatever you do above and get a dead-end from vendor, then the last hope would be to use something like OpenCore that can intercept ACPI at boot and manually inject ACPI fixes. But you'll have to learn how Opencore does work, how to use it not the standard way (as it is mainly made for Hackintosh), and learn how the whole thing about ACPI in PC computers does work (this is a lot of knowledge to learn), then find a way to fix/remap the problemaic ACPI definitions.
