Nice PC with some issues on Wifi, BT and wake on USB

Post by mondoblu »

I recently bought a mini PC AceMagic AM18 with AMD 8845HS CPU.

The PC is quite powerful, but there are some problems that I encountered:

- WIFI: it seems that the signal is strong, but then it transfers a few dozen kilobytes per second, I had to use an external WIFI dongle to reach speeds of 50 Mbit/second

- BT: it only associates with devices a few centimeters from the PC, while it does not see devices a few dozen centimeters away, also for this problem I used an external Bluetooth dongle; UPDATED:BT issue solved by downloading and installing latest drivers from AceMagic website.

- wake on sleep from USB: the related option is disabled in device manager for USB devices like mouse and keyboard, so I cannot wake up the PC by moving the mouse or touching the keyboard; the same devices are enabled on my old PC.

Any idea to solve these issues?

Regards, Livio

I don't have an AM18 personally, but what I would try is adjusting the setting in the WiFi module in the Device Manager.

This is from my AM06 Pro, but the idea is the same.

If you click on the Value there will be a drop down, and you can try different modes. Make sure to click OK after changing it to set it in. HOWEVER, make sure to note which one it starts with, in case you need to go back to it. It's probably on Auto, which tends to be the default setting, but note it just in case. You can Google what the difference is with each setting, as in a, b, g, n, ac. If there's an ac only mode, try that. If not, try a/n/ac. You can try the others too, but those tend to be pretty fast.

Edit: make sure you're choosing the built in WiFi, not the USB WiFi dongle that you added.

As for the 'Wake on sleep from USB' setting's not being available for the keyboard and mouse, if the "Allow this device to wake the computer" option is greyed out for each one, I'd contact barry, a tech for the company, at barry@minipcunion.com to see if he can help figure out how to enable those options. I've found a few posts about registry changes to allow it, but I wouldn't want to recommend the wrong thing when it comes to the registry, and the solution may be something more simple.

Nope, I've tried to change the wireless mode setting in the advanced properties for the Realtek 8852BE Wifi NIC, but no improvements.
I'll keep the USB dongle connected to the mini PC, it works fine.

If you still want to see if you can get the issue remedied, I'd contact barry, a tech for the company, at barry@minipcunion.com. There are a myriad of possibilities of what could be causing the problem, but he'll likely be able to figure it out.

I swapped out the Wifi module for an Intel AX210, as used in the Geekom A7. Works perfectly and bluetooth is flawless as well, $25 fix and extremely easy (if you're confident enough to swap out RAM or an SSD you can do this in 10 mins).

1. Regarding WiFi Issues
You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Please refer to the documentation provided:
[WiFi Driver Documentation]

2. Regarding USB Devices Failing to Wake Up
If USB devices fail to wake up under default settings, it may be caused by third-party programs or a recent Windows update.

- If you have modified other settings, we recommend restoring them to their default state first.
- Uninstall any third-party system management software or antivirus programs.
- If the issue persists, try uninstalling recent Windows updates, restarting your PC, and checking if the problem is resolved.
