Acemagic S1 Bios Start Option Usb

Post by andreaustria »

Hello, I'm new here

I bought the Acemagic S1 and it's great too. There's just one problem.

I set the boot option to USB device in the bios and save, I restart, I press F7 and only the NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB is entered there.

It's connected external USB case in which a 2 TB hard drive is inserted which is ok.`

I also disabled the Securt Boot option. The hard drive is ok and is also recognized in Win11.

I wanted to make a backup from the USB external HD hard drive to the NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB. USB sticks are recognized in the BIOS.

It didn't help either Plug the USB hard drive from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0. Which option should I activate or deactivate?

If you're trying to boot to Windows on an external USB drive, that drive has to be set up in a special way. Otherwise it's not bootable.

Are you trying to back up data from the external drive to the system drive? If so, you can do so after you boot into Windows on the system drive.

If you're trying to clone the external drive to the internal, it's not going to work. You can only clone from internal to external, not the other way around.

Hello Gabe, I want to start Windows 11 from the external USB hard drive.
Can you please tell me what I have to set in the BIOS.
I have deactivated Fast Boot and Securt Boot.
I want to transfer all my data from the USB hard drive to the NVMe M. Transfer 2 SSD 1TB.

Hi andreaustria,

It should be simple enough to boot the S1 from an external drive. You just need to make sure the drive is configured as a bootable device. Did you install Windows or some other operating system on it, to boot from? Once you're sure it can be used to boot from, make sure it is connected before you boot the system; then use the DELETE key at power-on to enter the BIOS, and choose that drive from the BOOT menu.

andreaustria,

You've got two options to try.

1. Cloning the system on the internal storage to the external drive using some type of cloning software.

2. Installing Windows 11 manually onto the external storage. To do this...

First, you're going to need how to perform a clean install of Windows 11. If you're not familiar with the process, take a look at the following website, or even others...

https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads ... l.3831442/

What you need to do is, with the S1 booted to Windows 11 in the normal manner (from the internal storage), download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. Then create USB flash drive installation media using that tool. I'd then save the drivers from your current install of Windows 11 to another USB flash drive, as you're likely going to need a few after the new installation on the external storage.

Then shut down the PC, disconnect everything, and remove the internal storage. This is to cut down on any confusion so you're sure to be installing Windows on the external driver. Reconnect the power, mouse and keyboard, and both the USB installation media you created and the USB external SSD you're going to be installing Windows on.

Then start the unit, and quickly start tapping the F7 key, which will make it go into the Boot Menu. Then select the USB flash drive. This will get you into the Windows installation program. Then you'll perform the installation as shown on that website, but you'll be doing it on that external drive. After the install, it should go through the normal setup steps for Windows 11. After the install, you'll likely need to install some drivers, which is what saving those drivers to the other USB flash drive was for. You can install the drivers through the Device Manager, using those saved drivers for the search criteria.
