How to mount a heatsink to a M.2 NVMe SSD on F2A

Post by TVHD »

The description following doesn’t introduce no modification to F2A, but an addition, which is easily removable without any trace.
  • Hence my conclusion was that mounting heatsinks to the M.2 NVMe SSD is needful.

  • To enable this the distance between the bottom cover's fan and the M.2 NVMe must be increased, using
  • (1) 6 mm Hex Spacers with M2.5 thread succeed
  • (2) Heatsinks with 3 mm thickness fit now
  • (3) I've chosen to add self-adhesive tape stripes near the edges, mainly for visability and design reasons
Finally the bottom cover fits.

After our inspection, we found that the abnormal temperature was caused by the built-in M.2 SSD itself. We have already installed cooling fans at the positions of the SSD and DDR. However, we found that installing additional heat sinks at these positions may not produce significant effects, but may instead cause the device’s bottom cover to not close properly.
