Windows 11 23H2 is officially released today

Post by hsehestedt »

The irony is that my primary desktop system with an 11th gen Intel CPU was offered the update via Windows update. However, I have three 12th gen systems including two Mini PCS and none of them are being offered the update yet.

This is where it would be nice to do a clean install on the S1, but the screen configuration software is non-functional because we don't have a proper installer for that software yet.

Agreed. A clean install is almost always the way I go (after first doing an upgrade in place to fully satisfy the Windows Activation gods), but with the S1 that would be problematic, at least for the time being. 🙁

I found it interesting that with the S1 I had to do a clean install, though I could have used the Windows 11 Installation Assistant. With my T8 Plus I used said Installation Assistant, as the upgrade wasn't showing up in Windows Update with that either. I subsequently regretted having done so, as it took FOREVER for the upgrade to complete this way.

Yet with the AD03, again with the N95 CPU like the first two, I was able to do it through Windows Update, which was shockingly quick. Maybe a minute or so to download and another three or four minutes for the restart/install to complete. I was able to do the same with my T8 Pro and AM06 Pro, with those upgrading just as quickly. It's interesting that a significant upgrade ends up being so much quicker than a typical monthly update.

The only other one I tried so far was the GK3 Pro. It didn't show up in Windows Update, but I decided to wait until it does, as that Installation Assistant just takes too darn long.

So, five down and two to go, as I'm only still going to upgrade said GK3 Pro and my AMR5. The others I'm not really concerned with, and the W8 Pro doesn't seem to work anymore, though I may try installing Ubuntu on it to see if it's salvageable. The last time I tried updating the W8 Pro it wouldn't start.

And though it's not germane to this discussion, my Dell Inspiron laptop upgraded through Windows Update, and just as quickly as those above.

There are currently many bugs in the Windows 11 23H2 version, and it is not recommended to update it for the time being.

So far I'm not having any issues, but I'll keep that in mind. If I do, I'll re-image with 22H2.
