Newest AX16 laptop?

Post by dragonpoo »

So I just noticed on the home page that there's a new AX16 laptop (link is www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDB73QTL?th=1) - looks very similar to the AX15, so anyone have any experience with it? N95, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage sounds pretty decent.

I noticed it on Saturday when I was looking at the AX15. From the looks of it, a few main differences from the AX15 are that the screen is slightly larger, it has three USB 3.2 ports rather than two USB 3.2 and one USB 2.0 port, and it has DDR5 rather than the DDR4.

An improvement on a few things, especially the RAM. 👍

I see it has a round power port rather than the USB-C power port with the AX15. I prefer the latter, though it's not a deal breaker for me.

I'm interested in people's experience with it too.

If you have a larger demand for screen size, it is recommended to choose AX16.
Currently, based on the data I'm getting:
The display ratio of AX16 (16 inches) is 16:10, and the resolution is 1920×1200.
The display ratio of AX15 (15.6 inches) is 16:9 and the resolution is 1920×1080;
AX16 currently uses LPDDR5, 16GB (cannot be replaced);
The specifications supported by the hard disk slot are: M.2 2280 NVME/SATA (adaptive), single card slot.

Hi Barry, thanks for posting some of those specs. I'm glad to see it has 16GB of RAM, although its a little sad it can't be upgraded. My current system (Latitude 7350, had for about 6 years) has 8GB, so that would be a step up... if I made the jump.

Based on what you explained, the storage is upgradeable? I upgraded mine to 1TB years ago, and would want to go higher, not lower, on my next system. I appreciate the screen resolution - 1920x1200 is pretty nice to have a full 1080p resolution plus some. 15.x versus 16 inch display doesn't seem that different, but overall it is still pretty nice.

My thoughts too. Granted, it's DDR5, so it's powerful RAM and will likely be good for some time to come, but it would still be nice to have the option to upgrade it to 32GB for the long term.

Had I not gotten a different laptop a couple of months ago I would almost assuredly buy this. What I ended up buying is overkill for my needs, and this laptop would likely have fit the bill. I don't use a laptop very often, but I like to have one for when the need arises.

I haven't had a system with DDR5, so I don't know how the performance differs. I assume it wouldn't be a bottleneck on performance, compared to the low power N95, so it would probably be okay.

So what did you get? Never considered the frequency of how often I use it as a portable system. My Latitude is 95% at my desk with external KVM attached, so I guess I have little need for a laptop too, but being able to undock it and take it with me is nice, retaining all my work and files in a single location. Plus, it has a touchscreen and stylus support, which I occasionally use. I feel like that would be the thing I miss most, comparing it to the AX16.

A Dell Inspiron 15 3525. It's fairly basic, but it's plenty for my needs.

Looks like a decent choice. From what I can tell, it offers up to a Ryzen 7, 16GB of RAM, and plenty of storage - I wouldn't call that basic. Hope it's a good one.

I got the R5 5625U version with 8GB RAM, though I upgraded the RAM to 32GB a day after I got it.

Good move! Although really, it's probably overkill for most needs, I'm sure you know what you're doing.
