Windows 10 21H2 end of support is nearing!

Post by pausenklaus »

Just a quick reminder for everyone that the Windows 10 21H2 branch is nearing it's end of support! Windows 11 does not have a 21H2 branch and you are safe for now. The 22H1 branch will receive updates up to and including October of 2023
It appears that next month will be the last round of security updates for the 21H2 branch.

How do i know my branch?
On your Desktop press the Windows-Key+R to open the 'run' prompt.
Enter 'winver' and press OK

If your version is still 21H2 or below make sure to update either using Windows Update or with the update assistant.

Feel free to message me if you need help with the update installation or troubleshooting!

There's been so many releases of Windows 10, it's easy to get confused. Let's clarify a few things. First, Windows 10 Home and Pro 21H2 support is through June 2023, not October. It's different for Educational or Enterprise users, but these are uncommon for most end users to get access to.

If a Windows 10 system is unable to be updated to Windows 11, the best route is to get on the last Windows 10 release, called "22H2", which shows up as build 19045 in the Settings > About page. This version will receive updates through October of 2025; this includes Windows 10 Home, which typically sees only 18 months of updates. Microsoft wants all of its Windows 10 users to receive security updates for three years past the release of that final release of Windows 10. That will hopefully give people enough time to consider their next upgrade to get onboard with Windows 11.

Thanks for the additional information. It's true that i was only talking about the Windows 10 Pro version. Educational and LTSC releases have different support times
