I'm referring to the time after the BIOS POST and before the system loads. If booting from a cd drive, rescue disk, etc., you are often given an option to press a key to boot from it. If no key is pressed, then it will continue to load the operating system from C drive. But this doesn't matter anymo...

Yes, this I've done. It first loads the U drive and prompts "Press any key to boot from USB..." When I am unable to do so, the system then boots from internal storage. The system doesn't recognize "any key" being pressed, even though the keyboard works fine within the bios.
